Default Jaguar MK2 240 requiring restoration.

Jaguar MK2 240 requiring restoration.

I unfortunately have found myself in a position where I purchased a Jaguar MK2 240 at an auction about ten years ago, which I drove away.

I wanted to have a couple of jobs carried out and drove the vehicle to a garage who were tasked with carrying out the work. They parked the vehicle in a corner for some months (I should not have used the phrase “there is no rush”), then parked the vehicle outside over the winter, which was madness and I wasn’t aware. The aforementioned garage then went into administration. Because the vehicle was on the premises, the administrators took possession of the vehicle. It took me months of legal action, along with a great deal of expense, to obtain possession of my vehicle.

The vehicle has not been driven since and has been in storage, getting into a worse state of repair.

I am looking for someone who would take on the project of restoring the vehicle and I wondered if you would kindly put me in touch with anyone who may help me.

I would appreciate any help club members can offer.

I am based in Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Capt. Steven Hales.

Steven, If you're a member of the JEC (or even if you aren't, but it's better if you are), it's worth contacting Ken Jenkins (ukjag@hotmail.com) or David Marks (David@davidmarksgarages.co.uk). They are both near you and will give good advice. They do mainly mechanical work and are probably booked till fore ver, but their advice can be relied on.

How bad is the car and do you specifically want to have that car or would any MK2/240/340 be ok? In general its far less expensive to buy a car that someone else has poured their heart, soul and bank balance into than to restore one yourself, especially if paying someone to do the work.

It might be worth considering selling your car to someone as a project and then getting a better one that you can use now.

... or as Homer says buy a better one and keep the present for spares. A 240 has a lot of useful parts even for a 3.4 or 3.8.
