Default MK2 B Post Chrome Trim

Hi,

I've come across an issue where the MK2 trim at the top of the B piece seem to be different lengths, there are two types depending on the age of the car but there also seem to be different lengths, certainly of the later ones.

I've got some that are 383mm and some are 390mm, my MK2 needs the longer ones but most of them seem to be the shorter ones from the ones I have and what I saw at the Jaguar Spares day at Stoneleigh.

Has anyone else come across this and if so what is the difference and when did it change? I'e managed to find a longer one for my car to replace a shorter one it has been incorrectly fitted with at some point in its life (the B pillar has had some heavy accident damage in the past) but wondererd why there is a difference. Most people I asked at Stoneleigh didn't have any idea what I was talking about and seemed amused that I was measuring them. I found a few of the longer ones at Stoneleigh but all in poor condition and I've then found a good one on e-bay which i've fitted. The person who sold me that one knew about the different lengths (the trim actually had a labell on it about checking the length so was probably sold at a show at some point).

Could the shorter version be for the 420 and S-type with their slightly flatter roof?

I was a bit disappointed with the recent Spares Day. There seemed to be much less on offer than there used to be. Has everyone moved to eBay?

I did wonder if they were for the 420 and S-Type but the majority of the ones I measured at Stoneleigh were all shorter, I only found a couple of longer ones and neither were in good condition. It will be interesting if anyone knows anything as I always assumed these trims were the same between the 420 and the S-Type as were the chrome window frames but perhaps not.

I also though Stoneleigh was a real disappointment this year, its been going down hill for a while even before COVID when people like David Manners and Martin Robey not attending and this time even Martrim weren't there and they have been going for years. Maybe its just temporary but this might be the begining of the end, I also don't think being in the newer hall did them any favours as it was harder to walk up and down and it felt empty, I would imagine the venue is probably more expensive as well which ultimatley will mean either ticket prices or sales pitch prices going up.

In one of my books & I can't find it the B Post cover was 2 piece & the other 1 piece. Anyone ever seen a very early Mk2 with a little chrome collar around the base of the B post chrome?

I'll keep looking but I think it was in one of the thick books on Jaguar. Not only Mk2.

Hi, yes my 1959 car is like this and the later cars have a lip built into them, however, these later types come for some reason in different lengths.
