Default Mk2 Handbrake

Hi Guys

The fun continues with the 3.8 Mk2, the handbrake stuck on whilst out the other day, had to get brought home on a flat bed. On inspection the handbrake is of the self adjusting type and didn't seem to be sticking as much as it felt when driving, has anyone any links as to how these work? I can guess the principle, but I want to strip them and don't want springs or clips jumping out when I take them apart.

Thanks

Graham

the Factory Service manual shows the servicing procedure, same handbrake and mechanism as other Jaguar models.

One tip I have is from my rebuild of 1981-87. The handbrake has a central compensator post bolted to the diff, from whence cables go to each individual caliper on each wheel. This post has lovely phosphor-bronze bushes but no means of lubrication. I took a nut which had the same thread as a grease nipple, welded it onto the post, drilled a hole through to make a passage, then screwed in a grease nipple, so I could keep this lubed up and eliminate seizure. I also rebuilt each individual handbrake caliper too.

You can still get the individual handbrake caliper wearing parts, here is a supplier.

Thanks for that I'll check the compensator as well, I took the self adjusting mechanism apart on the passenger side and it had collapsed internally due to a broken pin retaining a spring.

Cheers
