Default Mk2 light switch - diagnostic advice needed

The light switch on my car doesn't work as described in the owners manual, and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong.

It has three positions that should work as follows:
O - Off
S - Side and dash lights
H - Side, dash, and headlights

The three positions on my switch operate as follows:
O - Off
S - Side, dash, and low beam headlights (dip switch has no effect)
H - Side, dash, and both low and high beam headlights

I just looked at the back of the switch and everything appears to be connected correctly.

Additional details that might be relevant are the high beam flasher function on the turn signal switch doesn't operate and the high beam indicator on the dash doesn't do anything.

I'm wondering if it's a bad light switch, or something buggered up in the turn signal switch. Anyone been down this path before and have suggestions?

Thanks.

On my 1960 Mk2, the switch has actually 4 positions:
- O Off
- S Side lights, dash and rear
- H Side lights, dash, rear and low/high beam depending on the dip switch poistion
- F Side lights, rear, dash and foglights (no headlights)

I would say start at the lighting switch, because even if the headlamp flasher facility on the turn signal switch doesn't work, the fact is that going to position "S" shouldn't pass any voltage to the headlamps. The headlamp flasher switch gets volts when the ignition is turned on, so should work no matter what the lighting switch position is.

BTW, the lighting switch has a Fog position option, and this can be put into use by dismantling the switch and removing the blocker. You need a new switch escutcheon with the four rather than three positions. I actually converted my switch when I rebuilt a Mark 2 in the 80s, because I managed to get a set of new Fograngers. The wiring loom already has the circuits in.

That's a very interesting detail. I bought Fograngers and the switch for my 66 S Type. The four position switch has been disassembled and repaired whilst my 3 position switch is in perfect shape. I can't find the red/yellow wires for the Fograngers in my car. I have them in the dash but they disappear into the loom and are never seen again.

I have the wiring terminations documented if that will help you. I guess some of the manuals have it wrong??

So it sounds like the lighting switch can be disassembled and potentially repaired. I'll try that next.

I never would have guessed that the fourth position was blanked off.

Thanks.
