Default Mk2 vs MKII

I'm new to Jaguar ownership, and am puzzled by the nomenclature of these cars. The badge on the trunk says "MK2" but I see the model commonly referred to as "MKII" or "Mark II". This forum is even labeled "MKII".

What's the preferred name for this model, and if it's not MK2, why?

Thanks.

It is "Mark 2", thus the bootlid badge abbreviates this to Mk2. Using the Roman numeral system is not correct.

But we all do it !!!

I prefer MK2 _ I hate Roman Numerals, they're confusing and antiquated.
Maybe it's a carry-over from Bentley.
Bentley were using Mark V, Mark VI and then Jaguar came along and said you're stepping on our toes and after that Bentley was forced to use letters as there was no Bentley Mark Vll, it became the "R" Type, "S" Type and "T" type.
When Bentley was allowed to use numbers they did use Roman Numerals and I think it may have stuck with Jaguar, even though Jaguar never used Roman Numerals.
Just my thoughts on the subject...

You have this a bit confused...Jaguar did indeed use Roman numerals - for the Mk IV, Mk V, Mk VII, Mk VIII....but these were big saloons. The small saloons were different; for these Jaguar used Arabic numerals: the "Mk 1" was only known as such restrospectively after the Mk 2 was introduced. And this model uses the Arabic numeral, not the Roman numerals - just as the badge on the trunk shows. These small saloons were followed by the 240, 340, 420....not the CCXL, CCCXL ...!
