Default protective plate for the brake servo on Jaguar MK2

Hi to alls
On the Jaguar MK2, there is a protective plate for the brake servo. Is it essential to keep it after replacing the brake servo ?
My best regards
Gérard

If possible, keep it intact
It stops road "crud "and mud getting into the engine bay.

Do you mean the 'helmet' over the servo itself or the shield over the vacuum reservoir also shown in your photo? As Bill wrote, the helmet like cover over the servo is essential. Otherwise, there'll be all kinds of crud and stones hitting the servo and going into the engine bay. The shield over the vacuum reservoir protects the reservoir from stones etc from the wheel, but also tends to collect muck and dirt between itself and the reservoir eventually leading to corrosion of the reservoir. The one on my car was disposed off many years ago and replaced by a pitch soaked felt like material attached directly to the reservoir.

Have you resolved the problem of the brakes requiring an excessively strong push?

Default Jaguar MK2 brake efficiency

Hi Peter
The mecanic said that he mounted a brake servo typically used on Aston Martin and said usually it works fine.
He acknowledged the impact of the servo diameter on its efficiency.
He has ordered a larger one. So I am not sure that the original helmet over this servo will fit.
So I hope it will then OK for the efficiency and flexibility.
My best regards
Gérard
