I'm about to get my hand brake back on the car, tore it off more then three years ago so memory of how all pieces sits together is dimmed by now. Pic below show the status at the moment. But what is the procedure from here? I only found an image showing some of the parts of the assembly in a schematic picture, but is there any procedure description of how to do it out there?
Yes that description of the procedure from JTIS was very brief. In the section below about the retaining pin to be seated in the backing plate, is backing plate the same as dust shield? And is this the retaining pin?
My memory is foggy here, I'm afraid. I *think* those pins pass through the brake shoe from the front, then into a slot in the backplate. You have to align the tabs on the pin to the slot, push hard to compress the spring (I use a small socket + extension) then twist 90° to lock them in place.
But - I can't see slotted holes on the pictures I found of the backplate.
On the other cars I've done, the retaining pin goes in from the rear and is secured at the front by a slotted washer.
Thanks a lot for the clarification! Yes there are slotted holes in the shield but they cannot be seen from the angle of the image. Will try this in the coming week!
This activity went into the freezer again.. but spring is closing in and it's finally time to solve this. The cable bushing, should it sit as in the upper picture, or as in the lower picture?
Made myself a little tool to make it a bit easier to get the manual-adjust-expander thing in place, where the upper spring is forcing the two brake pads together. Made the job piece of cake. The bits look crap, I know. Not been in possesion of a welder for years so I used chemical metal. Did the job
Seems like I got everything right, passed the inspection a few days ago with no remarks! The cat back on the roads again after looong sleep in the garage. Five years since last inspection
And what a pleasure to drive!!
