Thought I'd Share - As part of my brake project (ongoing) I'm replacing my "Split Brake Differential Switch" part number RTC-826/A that's been sitting in my parts box for over a year. I notice that it has a brass button on the bottom of it that pushes in. Not knowing the concept of it, I Googled it and came up with this below link and I thought I would share this for some future reference. On the Schematic, one contact goes to ground while the other goes to the Brake Low Fluid Switch. So that either will light the Brake Warning Light (coordinate A1 - Call out# 160):
Thanks, I will this add to my collection of irrelevant information, that always seems to be vitally important as soon as it's trashed!.. I keep everything - ask me why!
The saga continues - When I took the brake warning switch out of the Split Brake Differential unit, I found that I have the wrong new brake switch. Also the little piston inside of the unit is frozen in place. So I removed the five brake lines going to it and removed the unit. It's now sitting in a pool of Liquid Wrench for me to try and free it up tonight. Given my bad experience getting flared fittings to stop leaking, I hope I can get this back together without leaking.
I was unable to acquire another Split Brake Differential Unit (now SBDU for short). As you can see from the before pic it was all gunked up. I had to soak it, then drive out the piston - very carefully. It did come out unharmed. I then had to clean the piston with 220 sandpaper and clean the bore by wrapping 220 around a 1/4" socket extension and clean the bore. Had to do this a few times to get the piston to move freely back and forth in the bore using brake fluid as a lubricant. Next pic is all the parts involved. Not sure what keeps it centered as there are no springs. Maybe just equal pressure on both sides. Last pic is it cleaned out (thought I had a pic, but I don't). I'm awaiting the Power Brake Bleeder to arrive, hopefully today, so I can bleed tonight. Have pulled all bleeder nipples and cleaned the outside with a wire bench wheel, 220'd the nipple seat lightly, and reinstalled with anti-seize. Hopefully the job will go well.
