Im willing to learn too!! I am happy to perserve with things, but its frustrating not being able to get to anything because there is no space. Has anyone converted a Mk2 to an E-type "lift-up" bonnet arrangement? Lol

Out of interest when the Mk1 was being developed a tip forward bonnet/hood was considered. There are pics of it. However being Jaguars first monocoque structure they must have moved away from that idea, due to a lack of rigidly without substantial reinforcement, that would have weakened the front of the car, and so they settled for a more conventional wing structure with a crocodile-type bonnet/hood.

A couple of year ago I bought a spare set of hinges for my S Type in the hope of redesigning them to allow the bonnet to lift higher at the back by getting the bonnet to open to a vertical position. After several attempts I failed and now just resort to removing the bonnet from the car whenever I have to do some work at the rear of the engine bay.

I do the same thing to get at the rear of the engine bay on MK1 and Mk2 cars.
Bonnet alignment on these cars is a real fettling art so you do need to be able to put it back in exactly the same position.
I have surrounded the area where the bolts fit to the hinge with permanent marking ink so the bonnet can be fitted in exactly the same spot.
on one car I had, somebody had sprayed a contrasting colour over the bolts and adjacent hinge assembly and that worked quite well but would not suit concours.
