Andy Rupert
Hello, my name is Andy Rupert and I'm new here at the Jaguar forums. I have done a little of everything: car sales, assistant pastor, jr. high basketball coach, backyard mechanic, school bus driver, construction worker, etc. I am currently employed as the internet manager of Leikin Motor Companies in Willoughby, Ohio.
I've owned several Jags in the past. My first was a 1990 XJ6 which went into limp mode and needed the climate panel, fuel tank, front suspension, and a new owner. My second was a 1982 XJ-S V12 which was a blast to drive. The previous owner had moved things around a bit to make the engine more efficient. Unfortunately, when gas prices went above $4.50/gal, I sold it to a collector. My latest is a white 1990 Sovereign which is my daily driver. I also have a black 1990 Sovereign parts car which had an electrical fire. I'm parting it out if anyone needs any parts.
My current car blog is located at AndyRupert.com | A few thoughts about cars…. I've been writing about European cars ever since I purchased my first SAAB in 2001. It's a fun thing for me to chronicle my backyard mechanic episodes. Maybe you'll find some of it helpful, too.

The handle of my 3/8″ ratchet wasn’t long enough to brake loose the bolt holding the bumper to my parts car. And to make matters worse, there were no metal pipes in the garage to slip over the handle for more leverage. So what do you do when you don’t have what you need? Buy a bigger ratchet? No. Borrow a pipe from a neighbor? Nope. I ended up using an old bike frame’s handle bars to do the job. Slipping the end of the handle bars over the ratchet handle worked perfectly for both bolts and the bumper was off soon after. Call me a redneck if you will … but I’d rather call it resourceful.
Thanks, Norri. People often ask me why I would buy an older jag with all the problems they are known for. I enjoy fixing things and also enjoy the beauty of the design. So, to me it's worth it. Hopefully, I will still be saying that in a few months.
Welcome to the forum Andy,
You must let me have the reference number for that new design of impact wrench.
Good piece of lateral thinking there.
Enjoy morphing the black XJ40 into the white one.
