Welcome to the forum caspermj,

Follow this link XJ X300 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 section for help, advice and information. The HOW TO at the top of the threads there is a good place to start. It has https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...yers-guide-doc a Buyers Guide and much more besides.

Enjoy the search and the forum.

Graham

Welcome to the forum caspermj. The X300 is widely acclaimed as an excellent and reliable automobile, and I wish you every luck on the hunt. My wife and I vacationed in Nova Scotia sometime after getting married, and I can't imagine a better place (though perhaps more so in the warmer months) to be a Jag driver!
cheers!
Scott

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome! Unfortunately, shopping for one of these takes me out of the province, but won't be the first time. Seems here in Canada (and elsewhere?) that rust in the rear quarters can be an issue, as is driver seat wear. Mechanics seem robust. My "want" is the X300 (4.0 "six"), but is the V8 also good to consider? I enjoy doing all my own repairs, and have a lovely 928S to back it up, lol!

Although the X300 and X308 look very similar, the body and interior benefited from development with the later V8 model.

The V8 is smoother and more powerful but the early ones aren't as robust as the straight 6. I've owned both and on balance would choose the V8 but suggest you test drive both if you get the opportunity. Opinions like this are always very subjective.
