Greetings all. After numerous conversations with Gus over a few months I finally realized that it would be a good idea to register here. I've had great success over the years with automitive forums as I've done a lot of work to my first British car, a '77 MGB (actually my wife's. I was relegated to chief mechanic). I then went on to get my own MGB - another '77 that was in mid restoration when the owner died. I was searching a project car to do a few personal changes to, and this was the perfect car. Changes? How about a '94 Camaro 3.4liter V6 and 5 speed tranny? Lowered, chrome bumper conversion, and much more. Took 5 years. During that time my wife expresed interest in Jags. Of course she was thinking E-type, and I was thinking food and mortgage. As it turned out, we stumbled on a beautiful '97 XK8 convertible for a great price and had to get it. I hung on to her MGB until I was done with mine (Nothing like having a pristene sample to help show where and how many odd parts go together.) When my car was done, we sold her MG. So now she has the More Civilized British sports car. I did check on the infamous timing chain tesioner issue and replaced the secondaries as soon as we bought it. Good thing as the originals were both splitting and ready to go. We've been a bit tentative to driver it lately - 1 because of the weather (we live in SE Massachusets) and 2, because on Thanksgiving morning we experiences the feared Cylinder Washdown Syndrome. I was able to get it going by pumping oil into each of the cylinders, and it has run well ever since. But we do get anxious each time we go to start it up. Of course, Gus is in the middle of a science project to better unbderstand the long term efects of this, so we are hoping he comes up with something definitive.
That's my story. We love the car and hope to be driving it for a long time. And hopefully I can give back to this forum with some of my experiences on this and other cars.
