Considering a Jag.....

Hello everyone, this is my first post and wanted to get some opinions about buying a Jag. I've been a Saab guy for the last 11 years and am moving to Dallas in a few weeks. I'm going to sell all my cars when I move. I would get another Saab but they are not as common in the south and I'm worried about being able to find a good independant mechanic.
That being said, I've always wanted a Jag. I was considering an S type but wanted to hear from you all. I've heard maintenance is expensive but the same is said about Saab but I've never found that to be the case. Coming from Saab to Jag, are they comparable? Another reason I'm considering a Jag is that Saab may not be in business in the US in the next few years. It's a great car but definately a niche market. I do love the fact that the 900's could easily get 400K miles out of them if you took care of them.
If you had to buy a mid 2000's Jag, which one would you buy if it had to be reliable? I prefer a manual but I know that this will limit my choices.

Welcome to the forums, I don't know much about S tYpes so you should check out S Type Forums , maintenance is never easy but don't get me wrong I don't mean that S Types are nightmares lol
Welcome Unshriv, as caddie mentioned, read up on the s-types and the x-types. I don't think the s comes in standard, but you can find x-types with a manual transmission...pretty cheap. But, they do have more maintenance it appears over the other models.
XJ, S-type, X-type and XKs are all different animals. Each look and drive differently, so get out there and do some test drives.
good luck.

I think the X-Type is the only Jag you're going to find with a manual. As h20boy mentioned, you can get low-mileage mid-2000s X-Types for very reasonable prices right now, especially with the manual tranny. If you do go with an X-Type, from what I've read you should do your best to get a 2004 or newer—as with any car, the first couple of years ('02 was the first year for the X-Type) suffered from some teething problems. The '04 and newer X-Types actually generally get very good ratings for reliability and repair cost over time.
