considering s-type

Hi everybody,
am shopping for a car, and accidentally discovered that a 3-4 year old S-type is right in my price range. Test-drove it yesterday and absolutely fell in love. However (and I hope I don't offend anyone on here), I was a little surprised that the price tag is lower thatn comparable cars and ran that by my friends. Their response was quote on quote: " YOu need to buy 2 of them because you will need a second one while the first one is in a repair shop." Is that really that much of a problem? Or is that just public perception? I have never driven a car that beautiful, and I would hate to miss out because of a stereotype.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

Hi , by what I've been told by other jag owners they are very reliable and barely break but when they break parts are more expensive and harder to get, the value of this cars is the looks, aside of having an excelent drive, very stable and responsive, those are very well made cars.
I just purchased myself one, a SOVEREIGN X6S if you have heard this model, and I plan to fix all the little details well and enjoyit.

I was in your shoes a month ago. I shopped for months looking at Jags, mercedes, saab, and bmw. The more reseach I did the more I leaned toward the Jaguar S-Type. I found one that fit my wish list (V8, & price range) and went for a test drive. That cinched it for me. I bought it a couple of days later! A 2003 S-Type V8 with 43,500 miles. So far I'm extremely happy with the car. great ride, very quick and luxury. I did buy an extended warranty to hedge my bets.
The comment about the two jags is an old line that was a bit too true years ago. When Ford bought Jaguar they brought a higher level of quality. In the past I think most of the problems were electrical related (lucus electronics!), but that is behind them now.
Again, I'm really digging the Jag!
