Default first time in a forum

Not sure if I am doing this correctly. I live in Tampa, own a 2006 XKR convertible.

Enjoying the car but having a vexing problem of very intermittent nonstarting. Five or six times a year (twice in car washes, very problematic) I turn the key, the dash lights up but nothing else happens. Usually I just try the key again and it starts right up, but yesterday I had to sit for a few minutes before the car started.

Wife in car, now she won't go anywhere in it, fearing she will be stranded. To be fair, this happened in a previous Fiat Spider twice.

Anyway, I have new battery, new exciter ring, new points but this still happens. No computer codes show up to indicate a problem. Dealer just says it will have to happen when they have the car, which is not likely to happen.

Any ideas?

Concertoed, welcome to the forums! I'm not an XKR owner but hopefully one with suggestions will chime in.

First time in a forum? That was me earlier this year, and I gotta say that this forum has been good to me. Lots of good advice and helpful suggestions here.

Good luck with getting your starting issues sorted, and welcome!

Welcome to the forum concertoed,

I'd always prefer a straightforward breakdown to an intermittent fault. It's going to take time troubleshoot that one.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-17/ to the to the XK8/XKR section for help and advice if you have the last of the earlier model or this one XK / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum if you have the current model.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Please also visit the Lower Atlantic Region section Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Welcome to the forum.

Shows what I know about XKR's, I didn't think they had 'points'?

I'd love to see a pic or two of the XKR convertible in a carwash.

Hope you can get your starting problems fixed. The XK sections will help you.
