Greetings All!
I just joined. I'm retired after 35 years in the Automotive Industry.
As an old guy, I'm on a budget, so I just purchased a 1996 XJ6 with 137,000 miles. The car is a medium blue metallic, and seems to be in good nick. My only concern is a bit of froth on the dipstick. I thought head gasket, but the oil under the cap is clean, she's not running hot, nor does she miss. No noticable coolant loss.
She was sitting for about two months before I acquired her. I live on the damp Oregon Coast. Any ideas? Condensation? Also the check engine light is on so I will need a tester. They wanted $6500, but I bought her for $4000.
This is not my first jag. When I started in the business, I had a 1958 XK-150 Roadster that was, I think called Grampian Grey, with red leather. It was a near mint one owner that never gave me any grief. I immediatley had it painted BRG, and then sold it in 1968 for $850.00.
My next Jaguar was a 1966 XKE Coupe with the 3.8 in a burgandy color, that had 16,000 miles. I bought it from an architect in Salem Oregon, for $1800.00, as he wanted to trade it in for a rover 2000 (not a tc). Anyway sold it for a profit the next year at $1950. I thought I got the best of that deal...Oh Well!
Anyway, thanks for letting me join you folks, I'm no mechanic, so I'll probably be here often. Thanks again.
