Default Hello

Hello all,

My name is Mike. I'm from Fairfield, CT, USA.

I just purchased a 2003 X-Type with 84k miles.

I'm a corporate refugee, former engineering manager, now running a small business repairing boats. I've done some racing with SCCA, but that remains out of budget for now. I've done more than a little door to door ice racing up in Maine as well, but we just don't get the weather lately. I had a couple of jobs repairing British Cars when I was a kid. I also have a '69 Triumph Spitfire (running and rolling, but no tags or interior right now), a '98 540i6 (217,000 miles), and a 2000 Chevy K2500 pickup. The 540i was my wife's regular whip for the last 10 years. I bought the Jag to take that job over, and serve as our general wedding/funeral/vacation want to look decent and not worry that the old iron will strand us car, and I'll be rolling the 540i as my car.

The car has a few issues, such as leaking oil pan, no auto up/down on passenger rear window (from master only, fine from that door switch), a creaky center console, a small weep from the right angle thermostat housing dealy, a possible leaking power steering hose, crazy pointy clutch/brake/accelerator pedal covers that look like they are angry at me and have already removed a portion of my flip flop, crazier purplish aftermarket headlamps, a very pointy little chrome dragon where the 2.5L badge should be, a collapsed trunk liner due to lack of support from mini-make-believe spare tire, a damaged driver's side sun visor, some very minor body issues (don't we all) and some missing bits (child seat anchor covers, the little tack in the defogger grate corner, et cetera).

The car is black, charcoal leather interior, gray headliner, 16" alloys, and chrome accents.

I've been reading many older posts to better understand how to tackle them. I have some questions to ask but, have not exhausted my searches of old posts yet. I've struggled to figure out the EPC choices. Links aren't working (I wouldn't expect them too for long) and I'm unsure which to buy on eBay (will probably be my first question post).

Thanks.

Regards,
Mike O

Welcome to the forum Mike,

Great Intro. Hope the X-Type proves a worthy successor to the 540i.

As you've been looking around already, there's no need to give you the link to the X-Type section. The guys there will help with the issues if you don't find the answers in previous threads.

Thanks for adding vehicle details before being asked. It's a big help to everyone to be able to see this information straightaway when reading posts.

The EPC - did you download it from the forum? If so, it's an offline version. This is why the links don't work. Only the dealers have the links back to Jaguar. Despite this, all the information on part numbers and VIN ranges is there.

Graham
