Default Hello

Greetings to one and all. I am new to this forum and arrive with a "barn find". A 1982 XJ6L. I didn't find this as I drove into my barn in 1995 and promptly lost all the keys to it. This was my fourth Jag ( 2 series 1 XJ6's and a series 2 XKE, all sold- IDIOT!!). I pulled this one 2 days ago and I am now in the process of going through it. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum edge468,

So you found the keys?

With all that dust on it, the barn must have been dry and you shouldn't have advanced rust battles to fight. It'll be interesting to follow the revival process.

Follow Norri' link to the X308 section for help and advice.

Good luck.

Graham

Thanks to one and all. Local dealer was unable to locate key codes in his system and said he would try to contact Jaguar in England but did not have high hopes. Gave me a price of $700 for lock set, uninstalled! I did find this though,

Removing Ignition Lock
I will try this today.

The Jag does have some rust issues around the windscreen and back glass, metal roofs sweat here in the deep south. Nothing that time and money can't fix!

Jaguar Dealers in the UK no longer cut keys. They order them direct from Jaguar against the VIN. I've now had three spares for different models delivered 'next day' like this.

I can understand US Dealers will still probably cut keys from blanks as standard practice but they must have the same option to order pre-cut direct from Jaguar available to them. If you tell you local Jaguar Dealer this, he might try a bit harder!
