Default Hello from Darlington, UK

Hi

I've been a member for a whil enow but not got round to introducing myself until now.

Bought my first Jag about a year ago, a 1999 3.0l S Type, manual gearbox, in Seafront Pearl. Loved the car and put about 25,000 miles on it in the yaer that I owned it. It started to get a few little niggles and needed a few things doing to it but it got written off in a re-end shunt on the motorway before I spent any money on it. I bought it originally for £2000 and got £1800 for it from the insurance, so 25k miles and a year of happy motoring cost me £200

With the insurance money I bought a 2002 2.5l manual S Type 1st facelift model in Quartz grey, for £1850. Lovely condition, really well looked after with FSH. Been driving this for about 6 weeks now and love the new dash and extra electric goodies that I didn't have on the old car. Decided to give this one to my wife to replace her old truck, so I needed to find another one for me.

On Thursday I bit for and won another 2.5l manual S Type. This one has had one previous owner, full Jag service history and has 70k on the clock. It's a 2003 model in Emerald green (not sure if that's the correct name) and is immaculate. It's just been serviced, had new Pirelli P7's all round and recent discs and pads all round. All for the bargain price of £1590!

I'll probably keep the new one for a month or two and then sell it on, hopefully for a profit. I've got a few other cars to sell off in the meantime, so I'll pool the cash and aim for something a bit further up the ladder. I looked round a late model XJ the other day and it looked fantastic, but I don't know anything about them. I'd need something with half decent fuel consumption due to the miles I do every year. I could see myself in an XK8 or XKR too, but again I need to do some reading. Any pointers would be welcome

Cheers
Rob

Welcome to the forum.

Some decent deals you have there.

Is a 2.7 Diesel in your future?

Good to see you.

Welcome to the forum Rob,

That was a good deal on the S-Type. You should make a profit on it.

Plenty of buying advice in both XJ and XK sections. Enjoy the search and the forum.

Hmm, not really planned on a diesel. I've heard lots of muttering about the DPF's on those. Also diesel is pretty expensive over here, about 30 pence a gallon more than petrol. (petrol is about £6.20 a gallon). I stuck the cruise control onto 55mph in the 2.5l car on my last long journey, and it came back with 46.2mpg over 300 miles. Not bad for an old big motor

Expect around half that with an XK8/XKR.
