Hi to all
I am a new member, 66 years old, from Chatsworth CA.
I am usually not a joiner of forums, partly due to the to many cars and motorcycles i own, and partly due to my not very outgoing nature.
Actually this is the first forum i ever joined, and you can probably guess the reason. A while ago i remembered my 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500 convertible i owned in the seventies (the IRS got it, i wish i still had it), and started looking for a convertible sport car.
I looked at the Mercedes SL600, the Audis, Porsches, Jaguars, they all had many bad reviews about the reocuring problems they had, but i finally decided on a like new 2001 XKR Silverstone with only 31000 miles on it.
My new Jaguar is beautiful, but extremely and unnecessarily complex, with information about it works very hard to come by.
All my life my mode of operation was that whenever i buy a vehicle, i buy the matching service manual, and if something breaks down, i get the needed tools and fix it. Never have i hit a wall like i did with the Jaguar. I bought it over 6 months ago, and still was not able to obtain a service manual ( i know about the JTIS), not even information what fuse is for what.
I counted 88 regular fuses in 5 different locations, probably many more hidden in the wiring, dozens of relays, and no info what is for what- not in the manual, not on the covers.
I probably solved the convertible "green shower" problem by getting a hard tonneau cover, and considering it a convertible only, Sunday, nice weather only car.
However the other common problem has already hit me after 500 miles of ownership - the infamous double fuel pump breakdown.
I am amazed that the super complex diagnostic system in the car, that can count how many times any door was opened, or the turn signal activated, or any other electrical impulse applied anywhere is not capable of giving a warning when the firs fuel pump breaks down, so You could do preventive maintenance, instead of getting stuck on the road with both pumps dead.
In its infinite wisdom it is giving codes such as "engine idle bellow 10 RPM, engine stalled, cylinder 1,2,3,4,5 etc misfire, all the obvious, but still no code to diagnose that both fuel pumps are not working.
Thanks to the experienced members on the forum (no thanks to Jaguar) and the information they provide, i was at least able to figure out how the fuel system works, and to diagnose the problem.
Now i just need to do the repair, seems easier said then done. The car is extremely beautiful, timeless lines, and i will try to hang on to it with the help of this forum.
I hope i will have better luck with it in the future. Sorry for this long introduction- i will post a picture of my XKR as soon as i figure out how

Just a word of advice - when posting in future please try to include line breaks. Posting in one big paragraph tends to make it harder to read and therefore sometimes people switch off without finishing and possibly answering the post.
