Default Hi everybody XK8 owner in the UK

Hi

Bought a 1997 XK8 for peanuts with a blown gearbox , the car is in lovely condition with XKR badges, wheels, kick plates grill etc.

It looks lovely, doesn't go anywhere but it looks nice

It's turning into a bit of a project already and i've only had it 3 days, I haven't even driven it yet but I can't get the smile off my face every time I look at it

I almost feel like I'm listening to myself when I hear you wax eloquent about your XK. When I see a project car in my garage I see the entire motoring history as well as the potential that will be realized when it's all fixed. So I totally understand your inability to get the smile off your face! Congrats on your acquisition and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the welcome, if the XK8 is anything like the 4.0 S-type I had last year i'll be on her a fair bit asking questions

Will you be repairing the existing gearbox or transplanting a different one into the car?

it's in the garage in pieces at the moment but as soon as it's out in the sun i'll take some photos, i've found a 4.0 engine and gearbox from a 2001 XK8 which i'm assured will fit so it'll be a new gearbox going in and a new engine as the old one had a knock which I didn't notice when picking it up,
is there anything worth keeping from the old engine, the new one is just a block and manifolds so i'll be re-using all the ancillaries
