Hi everyone!
For a few months now I am the proud owner of an XJ6 (X300). Very dark british racing green, generally in excellent condition (ignoring the sagging head lining
and it runs like a dream (knock on round wood three times).
I use it to commute to work (approx. 40 miles each way mainly motorway) which was the main reason (besides of my lifelong dream of actually owning an XJ) that tipped the scales. My previous car (inherited) was a Fiat Punto Speedgear and despite the fact that it was very good in petrol consumption it felt rather like riding a lawn mower to work every morning. Not good. Every bump and pothole was clearly acknowledged and my back wasn't too happy about it.
Enter the Jag. What a difference! My own personal concert hall. I now float to work every morning listening to Bach and Beethoven. Bliss!
So far (again, knock on round wood) only minor snags appeared: heating didn't work to begin with (dealer fixed the electric heating pump) and more recently the cable slipped off from the driver's door latch so I couldn't open the door from the inside. Felt a bit like an old English train, where you had to drop the window to open the door from the outside. Fixed this myself. I'm not a car mechanic, but still remember my student days where I had plenty of opportunities to tinker with cars.
Thanks to good documentation I found on this forum, I managed to fix the door latch one weekend. I'll write up on this as it might help others in similar situations. I'm generally very impressed with the amount of detailed help being available here and I hope I can contribute to it too.

Welcome to the forum Peter,
Definitely tempting Providence to suggest the Jaguar is running like a dream. They reward careful maintenance but punish complacency.
It sounds as though you already know the way to the tech section but if not, follow Steve's link to the X300 section for help, advice and information.
Enjoy the twice daily concert and the forum.
