Default Hi from a new XJS owner

Hi, I just picked up a 1990 XJS V12 in need of a little work, and while trying to search about these cars found this place, which seems to be a great resource! So, I thought I would join up and say hi.

A little about me - I'm originally from the UK, and moved to southern Indiana about 4yrs ago with my work (engineering).
I've owned a few older cars - 1972 MG Midget, 1979 Mini Cooper, a couple of old VW's and currently have a 1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula in the garage. I was after something with a little more class, and got the itch for the XJS.... my family has owned a lot of Jaguars - my grandfather in his time had a new one every few years, starting with the original S-Type! Today my father owns a Series II 3.8 E-Type FHC.

I'm not afraid of a little wrench-turning, but will be spending some time on here learning the ins-and-outs of these cars.

So, the first on the agenda with the new XJS is brakes - at the moment, the pedal drops straight to the floor, and can't even seem to be pumped up (although reading the procedures, I was trying to do this with the engine running which I think is wrong). Basic diagnosis will be happening this evening, but any easy pointers would be much appreciated!

Apart from that, there are really no big issues with the car - central locking is not working correctly, and the center dash console is cracked, but that's about it really!

Welcome to the forum Otto,

I think they are all in need of a little work! The benefits outweigh the hardships when the car behaves for you, it sounds like you have a good idea what's in store from your list of previous cars.
