Question High idle speed

I have an X300 1994 4 litre. At idle it sometimes races at a higher speed than normal. The cable and mechanism has been lubricated and the air box cleaned several times. If you tap the accelerator with your foot it returns to normal.

Had anybody else had this problem?

Hi all. The idle on my 95 XJR6 has been perfect @ 750rpm for years now. All of a sudden it now idles at 1100rpm and drops to 950rpm when auto box engaged. So I carried out a few checks: no fault codes showing, when I started engine from cold ( in park) it starts with a normal idle but if left alone it slowly rises to 1100rpm, stop engine, restart and it slowly rises from normal idle to 1100rpm again, lubricated throttle cable and Traction control device. So I suspect the idle control valve ( a pig to change on an XJR). Am I on the right track in assuming it's the idle control valve?
Cheers MartinXJR6 (Ireland)
