Hello forum members. I am a long time lurker (guest) and I just joined the forum today.

I recently purchased a 2002 XJR (Zircon/Oatmeal) with 34K. It is my first foray into Jaguar or any other British marque. Historically I have owned several diesel Mercedes which were excellent vehicles as I tended to put lots of miles on them for my job in Dallas, but they left something to be desired in the excitement department.

I moved to NYC (Manhattan) in 2007 and have been without a car since that time. I bought the XJR in anticipation of my rotation ending here, but found out i am staying another year. I am going to love paying more for my monthly parking than I would have paid for the car had I financed it.

So far, I am thrilled with the car. I fully expect to deal with some expensive issues, but I get a little thrill every time I see it. My reason for going with a Jag is because my late father always wanted one but never could afford it. As odd as it seems, I view the car as sort of a tribute to him. I like to think that he is looking down with a smile anyway.

I look forward to participating in the forum and hopefully I can be additive rather than just looking to other members for answers.

Welcome aboard, they are wonderful cars and I understand the lack of excitement with the Mercedes or for that matter most of the other euro boxes. There is just something about the Jag that inspires emotion.

I'm sorry to hear that you'll have to pay your exorbitant fees to park your new ride... I would be glad to watch it for you for mimimal driving privileges per month. :-)

Thanks to all of you who welcomed me to the forum. Midlife XJR, you sound like all of my buddies who were willing to babysit my Harley when I moved up here. I really am thrilled with the car. I have always been attracted to the XJs and when the XJRs first came out, I knew that I would eventually have to get one. The grill and wheels made the car in IMO. I am just glad that I could find a low miles example in the X308 body style. Now if i could just convince the wife she needs an XKR .....
