Lookin' to get a Jaguar - Intro -
Hello everyone, this is my first time on the Jaguar forums so I'm just going to be browsing around quite a bit. I am 19 years old and am now a Lead Manager for Sizzler 670 and a training manager for Sizzling Platter LLC (and all of it's franchises). I have had my current car; a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora, for about two and a half years and I'm looking to get a new car. I also have a 1967 Cadillac Sedan De'Ville that I am going to be selling this summer.

I love my daily driver and want a unique car to replace it. After test driving Lexus, Acura, Cadillac, and Lincoln cars I haven't found too many that I like. The closest new car I like is the Lincoln LS and the Jaguar I want is based off of its frame (S-Type). I want to make a purchase sometime in the Summer or Fall, hopefully this forum will help me make an educated decision. As of now I want a white 2003 (I hate the dash on years previous) Jaguar S-Type with a Black/Dark interior with at least a V8.

Nick, I believe you have the right idea about researching the s-type before jumping in. 2003 on and a v-8 is a good first choice. The s-types had a annoying problem, called "the lurch", and sometimes could be corrected, other times, not. My XK8 has a small lurch, but i've learned to live with it. Look here for a description of it.
It may be hard to find an 03 with any extended warranty remaining, so be diligent in its inspection and evaluation when you go looking. Its easy to be caught up in the looks and appearance, all that sparkling paint and chrome can be blinding to some of the mechanical and electrical gremlins beneath. Subscribe to the s-type threads and browse around the posts; go in knowledgable when looking for a car and you can't go wrong.

Gotta say that I'm very impressed that a 19 yr old will be researching a car that thoroughly without jumping in...nice one
You've had some good advice from h20 to start you off. Check through the S typr forum threads and see whats what too. If you have any questions or anything you want to know post a thread about it and see if some of the guys with the knowledge can help you out?...I'm sure they'll be only too glad to help

That Lurch does sound like an annoying problem, but anything is better than my car's "wobbly stops". The front end has a lot of problems with the suspension set up. It turns like it should and the suspension gives the nice firm ride, but it is impossible to do an alignment on it because I have to have a lot of parts replaced because they are worn. So my rotors are always warped, and they squeal. I want to get it all fixed up but it will cost me around 2,000.00 upwards for the repair, parts, brakes, calipers, ect. I love my Aurora so I want to make sure I know what I'm getting into because otherwise my baby is perfect.
I want to do a lot of research because I know that Jaguars are built by Ford, and I haven't had a good history with Fords... I want to make sure I really want the car and I'm not just goggled by its looks. That is what happened when I bought the Cadillac. I got it without thinking about where I would store it in the future and had no true idea of how much it would really cost me to fix it up. That is why I'm selling it this summer because I just don't have the time anymore.
The reason I chose the S-Type is because I prefer its front end more than I do the X-Type. I also like it because it seems a little bit bigger and not so compact. I'm a big car guy, I've always been into the 96 Impala SS/Caprice Classic/Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams and Crown Victoria/Town Cars. But where I live it is getting harder and harder to have such a big car. I drove my Cadillac into town and it can't fit in a parking space too well, that is if I can even maneuver around the parking lot. My Aurora is still a pretty big car but it isn't as big as my Caddy.
Like I said before I am not going to be making a purchase until late Summer or late Fall, I will be moving out in the Summer so it is sort of a little going away present to myself.
