Default My Introduction-Hello

Hi,

I just purchased a used 2001 XK8 convertible with 84,000 miles. It appears to be well cared for and I am just trying to figure out all the things I need to know to get the most out of my car. I was able to program multiple fobs but getting the keys cut by anyone outside of a dealership seems to be a challenge. I live on the north shore of Chicagoland and am looking for a competent mechanic, in case I need one down the road. I am also challenged by trying to get a convertible through a car wash that won't tear up my top. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
A car wash? I wouldn't advise it.

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Welcome,

Head to the XK8/XKR 1996 - 2006 section for many threads on the frustrations of getting replacement keys cut and mapped to the vehicle. You'll also find things to watch out for like tensioners and trans fluid changes.

I'd be more concerned about the effect of a car wash on the paintwork.

Kranium, welcome to the forum. Come on over to the XK8/XKR section, there are many knowledgeable members there who will share their opinions and offer some very good advice. Car wash? Look for the touchless kind, just high pressure sprays. I've subjected mine to an ordinary car wash once in desperation, but I prefer the hand wash.

What color is your 2001?

Steve

Hi there Krainium, welcome to Jaguarforums, good to have you here with us .....you've already had some great welcomes............look forward to seeing you around the site

As for the car wash????
Sorry, but you'd have to be nuts.......I don't think it'd be advisable with a ragtop and I know it won't be good for your paint............hand wash is the way to go but its your car and your choice.

If you add your car details to your signature it will help others to help you much more quickly.

A really great mix of information, camraderrie and fun
so jump on in and enjoy
Hope you enjoy your time here!!

Thanks. I have added the car specifications. I guess I will just hand wash it!

I guess I need to become educated about tensioners and other fluids for the transmission. I will definitely hand wash.

Default List of common problems experienced by 2001 XK8 owners

My 2001 has 84,050 miles on it and seems to be operating OK. Besides the oil changes, what other issues do I need to be aware of for this model year? Someone mentioned changing the transmission fluid, but my transmission seems to be operating properly and reading the forum, it did not seem clear whether I need to change it or not.

Also, has anyone used Dr. ColorChip on a Padific Blue color car? I don't want to mess up a good thing if this stuff doesn't work well.

Any help would be appreciated?
