Default New '00 S-Type Owner

Hi all,

I just bought a mint '00 white '00 S-Type V6! My first "luxury" car, and I'm excited (and a bit freaked out). I went to test it out and that was it--we had to have it. I'd read some reviews on Edmunds about this car and a lot of them said the interiors were cheap, etc., but that's not what I found at all. Plus it has fully tinted windows...and drives like a champ.

I live in Austin, and this weekend we will be taking out for the first time with our 4-month old son to the in-laws 4 hours away--2 lane country roads the whole way, with plenty o' speed traps (you know, where it's 70 one minute and 35 the next).

Anyway, I am a dunce with cars so anyone with tips on good Jag mechanics in Austin would be appreciated.

I'll post some pics soon. BTW, what's with the "S" button on the gearbox?

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the new ride! Someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong, but I belive the "S" button on the gearbox is for Sport mode, manual shifting. Not familiar with the S-Type, but on my XK I can put it into sport mode and use the paddle shifters to manually change gears on the 6 speed tranny.

Welcome to the forum,

CG you are half right S is for sports mode but you don't have to use the manual shift.
It changes the gear shift parameters and raises the revs for the up shift points.

Hello and welcome to jaguarforums.com. I know that you are anxious to get started and we are anxious to meet you and talk about your car. We have a baseline / criteria that must be met before full access can be granted. Please enjoy the forum and be patient once the baseline has been satisfied full access will be granted. Please continue to post and accept my welcome to the forum.

One other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Cool, I couldn't figure out how to edit my signature, but I found it (just scroll down a bit...)

Anyway, here are a coupla pics o' my ride. Don't mind the sketchy lookin' neighborhood in the background. I live in a funky part of Austin...What can I say, I'm a drummer!

Welcome, we seem to own the same year and model. You will get a lot of great info on the S type site. Lots of people who know what they are talking about. All I can recommend is change the oil and filter every 3 months or 3 thousand miles. I use synthetic and you will see a great deal of posts on when and how often to change with various opinions. I just find for my Jag changing it like this works for me with a great running car. I also love to keep the rubber around the doors and everywhere else very clean and moisturized which helps it to stay new and last a lot longer. Good luck with yours.
