Hi everyone. My name is Graeme. I live just outside of Gawler in South Australia. My first Jag is a 1971 XJ6 Series 1. Used to be an auto but is now fitted with a Supra 5 speed manual. A great drive and looks good from 20 paces but a bit rough close up. Loved it so much I have just bought a 96 XJ6 4.0 Sport (X300). Another great drive and looks good from close up as well (smiley face). I can't believe how well these cars drive (especially) the 40 year old one. And with the manual box, man I love it (smiley face again). They are just great. And despite the belief they can be a money pit in the 3 or so years I've owned the '71 I haven't spent a cracker on it. Hope the '96 is as good. Cheers all.

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
There's many a forty year old that looks a little rough close up.

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Hi Graeme,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure there must be a story behind the fitting of a Supra transmission to your 71 XJ. On first thought, that can't have been an easy task, or was it? I lived in Sydney for a short while, long ago, and can imagine how fine it must be to tool around in a nice (at a distance, anyway) XJ on roads that follow the contours of the land instead of being blasted straight through. I had to content myself with rentals ranging from Ford Falcons, the BIG Ford (forget the name), a little BMW convertible (small, pitiful little engine) and a surprisingly enjoyable Ford Capri convertible too.

Steve

Hello Steve

Not sure of the story behind the gearbox swap; it was like it when I bought it. Everything else is pure Jag and the 5 speed box makes it a really great car to drive

Welcome to the forum.

Good to have you with us.

The G/box swap, might have just been a simple matter of availability. Some S1 cars did have a manual + OD so a replacement + adapter could easily have been part of a 'plan'.

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm on the other side of the city but you are lucky to have Grant on your side.

Eddie.
