I am not sure about your specific fuse question, but the auto-only 'feature' you seem to have found does lead toward the stalk being at fault. I mean its either headlights work, or they don't (which would be a fuse). You could always try for a salvage part, if you're feeling lucky. They go out once in awhile, but not often.

Welcome to the Forum trainman I'm not familiar with this function, but I also doubt that it is a fuse because the lights work. (I could be wrong though)

Why not ty asking over in the XJ8/XJR forum for your model year.

For the benefit of the ROW, S reg equates to 1998/1999 MY.
