Default New here and to Jaguar

Well last year my X-type got totaled in a snow storm, not to bad body damage but when it went off the road it landed on a small tree strump that cracked the oil pan. Long story short we took the insurance money(which barely paid the car off) and left it.

Starting school again and in less than great financial times but still wanting a jag I bought a 1990 Xj6 with 88k miles for 600 bucks. Was sitting for a long time and had a leaking steering rack, blown rear strut, trunk latch problems(trunk was replaced but the latch dosent reach the latch bar), a hairline crack in fuel tank, and only 25% working brakes, and a large dent in the front right fender by the headlight.

Steering rack is fixed, has new tires and front shocks, fixed fuel tank, I am now working on the brakes (abs pump assy is broken).

So that is where I am at now, I really like the XJ series especially post 94 but this is what I got now, has the potential to be a great car, I just hope I get the money I put into it back out of it. Looking back it may have been a bad purchase because I will have spent almost 3000 on it just to get the mechanicals working again. But here I am...

So hope to gain knowledge on this forum about older jags and give any knowledge I may have.

Howdy Gunner

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like a labor of love in bringing that car back to life. If you're happy with, there is no price tag on that.

Yeah, I drove it about 80 miles to get it home, dangerous with only partial brakes I know and I honestly like it better than my X-type, it wants to go faster, has more staying power on hills, and the ride feels so much better even with a blown strut.

Does anone know anything about the trunks on these cars? It was in an accident and they had to replace the trunk, unfortunatly the trunk dosent come down onto the latch properly, it needs to come in a 1/4 inch. I was pulling hair out trying to adjust it yesterday and I decided to forget it till I got the car mechanically sound.
