New Member - 2000 S-Type 3.0
Hello all,
I purchased a 2000 S-Type in 2004 while on vacation in Las Vegas. Got a good deal on it from a Jag dealer there. My Jag only had 16K on it at the time and I now have 57K. I retired two years ago after 31 years in law enforcement. I have been working on cars since high school and enjoy fixing them and saving some big money. Mostly learned by reading manuals and the school of hard knocks. I just completed two semesters at the local community college learning about diagnostic techniques (scan data, sensors, etc.).
I have replaced the passenger side window regulator in the past and more recently, replaced the coils, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets due to oil leaking in the spark plug well and shorting out the coil causing a misfire. This was quite a bit of work but the engine is running well after the work. I did just have to have the transmission (5R55N) rebuilt. I've never rebuilt a transmission, but hope to take a class in the future. The transmission is running well, but the transmission tech advised me the I will need to replace the shift connector block soon due to a plastic connector being ready to go out. Just tonight I had a hard time getting the shifter/transmission to go into park so I could take the key out.
I have used this forum numerous times and found lots of good info. It really helped me with the coil and injector replacement. Since I intend on fixing whatever I can I hope to keep learning from all the collective knowledge here.
I hope I'm posting this correctly, I'm not that knowedgeable about how to do this.
What a great site!

Welcome to the forums,
The plastic piece is a known weak point, there is an aluminium replacement available for it from one of our sponsors.
