Hi i am Martyn, i have just joined the forum following my purchase of a 1987 XJ 40 3.6 Sovereign. It is showing 43,000 miles which according to all paperwork and condition of the car i beleive to be genuine. I have previously owned a X300 and a X308 and did not realise how much the older XJ40 differs in querky temperamental faults? However i am now finding this quite endearing to the old girl, it just seems that the list of to do jobs gets bigger the more repairs you do? I have also joined the JEC and i am amazed how helpful people can be for no reward? Hopefully once i get some real hands on experience i will be able to assist fellow novices like myself,
Many Thanks in advance to you all? Martyn

Welcome Martyn,
At 43k that is a little used example. I had an XJ40 which was also definitely quirky but still took me over 70k in four years.
XJ40 section should have plenty of help and advice. Lookout there for long time owner Brendan from Manchester who is probably your nearest neighbour on the forum with a 40.
