Hello,

I am a new member from Calgary. I own a 98 XJR on which I have recently repaced the timing chains, tensioners and guides. This site and my local Jag dealer were of great help in getting this job done at home. The dreaded chain rattle is now gone, but unfortunately the car has a rough idle now. It seems to run fine above idle speed, but is a problem at idle.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Welcome to the forums , should you visit X308 Forum which is Jaguar XJ8 & XJR you will find answers at your questions .
My opinion is that you need to clean the throttle body

Welcome JWT. Don't know about the XJR, but if you are sure that you have the timing set correctly, apart from the above, check your vac lines, plugs, leads etc.

Hope you get it sorted.

Good luck with the idle JWT, hope its a simple and quick issue to resolve. Welcome to the forums, and if you haven't done so already, post your question in the XJ8 section for more traffic.

Thanks everyone. I will check out the XJ forum.

I am pretty sure the valve timing is correct, having the crankshaft setting tool in place and camshaft lock-down bars on the flats when installing the chains. Will look for vacuum lines etc. Throttle body was cleaned a few months ago.

Cheers
