New Member, Background Info
Good afternoon (UK time),
I'm daG (blame my grandson for that) aka John, retired and living in SW London, and a Jaguar Forums first time user.
I previously owned an old XJ6 but recently bought a 2001 XJ8 3.2l Sports model in excellent overall condition with just under 100k (miles) on the clock, which I use most of the time for comfortable and enjoyable everyday motoring (about 8k mpa).
I also own a low mileage Chevvy Camaro (1998, 3.8l convertible) for good weather enjoyment (hmmm
) and great looks, which (for obvious reasons) hasn't seen the light of day too often recently
.
As an ex professional engineer I have been used over the years to working on my own vehicles, but now feel OBDII helpless and have had enough of high garage charges for diagnosing nuisance problems and doing the smallest of jobs, often without resolving what was wrong.
My next target is addressing this and I am researching suitable OBDII Hardware/software, generic and specific manufacturers code identification (including other modules such as Airbag, ABS, Transmission), etc, but at the moment I am wading through information and not sure of the best way forward (practical and economical) so may well be looking for advice on this.
Enough for now. I'll do my ancient Roman thing and meet you again in the Forum.
daG/John

Welcome to the forum John,
You'll definitely have to get to grips with OBDII for the XJ8. For member recommendations, have a look at this summary thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-%2A%2A-33347/
Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section for help, advice and information. If you're new to this model, the 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You may also like to visit the UK Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-68/ to find other members in this country.
Enjoy the forum.
