Default New Member, Hello!

Hello, My Name is Bill And I'm from Thatcham in Berkshire UK,

Married, divorced, married again, 3 children, 2 grandchildren.
I work for myself as a groundworker and also hire myself out with a digger.

I bought a 1999 S type v6 3.0l auto just yesterday with a problem and was searching for a solution when someone recommended this site, Cheers.

I have previously owned an XJ6 and an XJ40 but not kept them for more than 6 months as wife dosen't like them (to big outside and to small inside)

However she's taken a liking to this one and has even offered to clean the inside up for me so hopefully I might get to keep this a bit longer.

I'm no mechanic but I will have a go at fixing stuff myself if I know what the problem is.

I used to buy and sell old bangers a few years ago so I know a bit but not a lot.

Going back to the Car, I bought from my Brother in law who has owned it for a couple of years.

The problem is that the battery keeps going flat, He bought a new battery 3 months ago, It goes flat every few days.

The car is charging ok as it will keep running if you take the terminals off.

After searching google I found this isn't uncommon but no definate cause.
Some say it is the rear module (where is this situated and can I test it?) Someone said it is definately a wiring problem (worn and shorting out)and to take front bumper off to get to it.
And one answer was to disconnect the battery each night! Yeah , that would do it, but a bit inconvenient I think.

When you connect the battery there is quite a spark so it is draining from somewhere.
Any help or advice with this problem would be greatly appreciated as I really like this car and want to get it fixed.

I haven't taken any pictures of it yet but will post some when I do,
Cheers,
Bill

Welcome to the forum,

You will find several threads in the S section on this, but as you say no definitive answer.
You likely will have to isolate one system at a time until you find the one causing the fault then troubleshoot that area.

Hiya,
Thanks for that, I did look at the s type section shortly after joining and introducing myself, and I now realise that I maybe should have put my question there.
One thing I did was double lock the car last night and this morning the relays in the fuse box in the boot were cold when normally they would still be warm.
Maybe a fluke or intermittent fault but it has got my hopes up.
Thanks,
Bill

Hello Bill and welcome to jaguarforums.com. I know that you are anxious to get started and we are anxious to meet you and talk about your car. We have a baseline / criteria that must be met before full access can be granted. Please enjoy the forum and be patient once the baseline has been satisfied full access will be granted. Please continue to post and accept my welcome to the forum.

If you haven’t already you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for. To do this go to, User CP, Edit Signature, Add Vehicle Details and such and Save Your Signature.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Welcome Bill.

Yes, What Gus is saying below is very important.

I would reask your question over in the S Type section if you haven't already... And before you know it, you will pass the intro period and have full access!
