New member intro- Alan
Hi Guys (and Gals),
I joined the Jaguar fraternity 3 months back, when I bought a 2004 Jaguar X Type Sport 2.0 D. I guess I had an unfortunate introduction, with 3 breakdowns in the first month, poor fuel consumption and a rough engine. The latter turned out to be due to a split induction hose, and after diagnostics, I had a couple of sensors replaced, and a bill for £600, which seems to have cured the breaking down issue. (Touch wood!)
Now it runs sweetly, and it's a real pleasure to drive. I still only get 40mpg average, which everyone tells me is poor for this model, but I can't afford another bout of diagnostics yet.
On a personal level, I'm 30plus years married with a grown up daughter, and a lazy dog, a Saluki (a sort of fancy greyhound) called Lucas. I'm a heavy duty music lover, with tastes ranging from the Beach Boys (love their new album) to Mahler. I'm not what you'd call 'forum savvy' so I hope you'll forgive me any blunders.
Best wishes to all,
Alan.

Welcome to the forum Alan,
Great Intro.
Let's hope that's all the X-Type disasters behind you now. There again, naming the dog 'Lucas' could be tempting providence.

Follow Norri's link to the X-Type section and advice on adding vehicle details. You do this by going to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome Alan, as Graham said, really nice intro.
Whereabouts in the UK are you based ?
Enjoy your car and this friendly and (excluding me) knowledgeable forum.
Like you I've a cosmopolitan taste in music and have gone back to vinyl about two years ago.
What a relief to the old ears.
Shame we have to put up with CDs in the Jag but I think the turntable would skip even more than the CD player!

Hey Alan & welcome aboard JF, good to have you here with us
You say you're not forum savvy and then proceed to post one of the better intro's I've seen in a while..........only missing pics...lol
The diesel is a great car, both for perormance & economy.
Check it out, but, depending on your mileage etc you could look at checking the MAF and perhaps the EGR valve!
There's a really great mix of information, camraderrie and fun
I have manually upgraded you to full forum access so you can better view the whole site and all its features

Hi All,
Thank you so much for the welcome! I'm originally a 'Potter', from Stoke on Trent, now nearer to the well known brewery town, Burton on Trent.
I've uploaded some pictures (you'll understand I had to do the Autoglym thing first), and created a signature, (well, I think I have), and I'm looking forward to getting involved. And Steve, power to you with the vinyl, keep the flag flying, my friend!

I'm a new member as well and am looking forward to learning from the experiences of others here. I've driven a couple of used X-Types at the dealership where I work. The most recent was a 2003 automatic which drove well even with 230k miles on the odometer!
