Hello, I have two 2002 X-types:
- a 2.5l with 305,000 km
- a 3.0l Sport with 201,000km
Both have been great cars except for a driveshaft vibration in the 2.5 which replacement of the driveshaft twice did not fix, and severe rocker panel rust on both cars.
I fiberglassed both cars' rockerpanels last year to stop the water penetration but the driver side jacking point is giving way now. I have an estimate of CDN$2-3000 per car to replace left and right rocker panels, from a body-shop that has replaced rockers on a couple of X-types. I would prefer to just re-inforce the jacking point, but I can't find diagrams of the main structural to explore where I could weld in. Has anyone tried the reinforcement approach?

Welcome John B. We should call you Double X or something of the sort. Early X-Types and road salt = rust in rockers. Don't forget to open the door and check the bottom of the pillars too. Sorry about that. Haven't heard of any re-enforcing done.
