Just purchased my second Jaguar a 1998 XJ8. This is my second Jag. the first a 1996 XJ6.
My Wife was the one to Get this going. She wanted a CAT on the hood.

The XJ6 was a good car quit very few problem and fairly good mileage for a luxury sedan. Because of the higher mileage on the XJ6 we decided to look for another Jaguar. Being retired and on fixed income We decided look for and older low mileage XJ8. Found this unit in Portland area, lower mileage and fair condition. The cup holder and sunroof were problems as they were in the XJ6 which I can live with.

I like the ride and feel of the XJ8 and it is very quiet.

Both were the Red (wine) color again my wife's favorite and mine also.

We plan on keeping this unit for quit sometime and hope it treats us as well as the XJ6.

My wife's daughter liked the car so much they purchased it ,so its still in the Family.

Welcome to the site FYRPLG, I'm going out on a limb here but I'm guessing you're in the fire dept?

Main essential check for a '98 V8 is the upper camchain tensioners. These basically fall to bits and can cause havoc if not caught. Of course yours may have already been done, but it would be best to have proof of this. The replacements now used are made of metal unlike the older ones which were of plastic.

The other issue up to around 2001 was the Nikasil cylinder coatings but your car has got to 2011, i.e has survived over 12 years, so this is unlikely to be a problem as there is no longer any sulphur in petrol.

Oh, and welcome to the forum !
