New memeber and owner of 98 XJ8
Hi
I'm Ben out here in Phoenix, AZ I just picked up a 98 xj8 and it's been an eventful start.
I finally got her home and now I'm at work fixing her up. This site's been great. Lots of tips on my mishaps of a bad alternator and now getting the hood to unlatch.
I've always wanted a Jaguar, classic styling of the XJs.
She's all shined up now and has 120k on her. Need to fix a few things and get the Trunk or Boot repainted (oxidation from the sun) and she'll be looking great.
Thanks everyone for the tips.

Welcome to the Forum.
You need to study the forum for your model, (XJ8s from 1998-2004), wherein you will see plenty on the dreaded camchain tensioner issue. If not already proven as replaced by service records or invoices, this is your Numero Uno issue to be addressed, as failure is sudden and can be catastrophic, (but not every time). Minimum for a failure is a head -off job with new valves and so on. Replacement is a DIY job but you need to be an experience spanner jockey.
However these cars can run the marathon if looked after properly, like most pieces of engineering.
Did you get any service records with the car ?

Welcome to the forum Ben! Fraser is dead on with the warning regarding the timing chain tensioners. Please look into. As you've observed, there is plenty of wisdom here, and the members are more than willing to share. You might include your year and model in your signature block. That way we know what your dealing with. I love the lines of the xj8. Enjoy your time with her.
Hello Ben and welcome to jaguarforums.com. I know that you are anxious to get started and we are anxious to meet you and talk about your car. We have a baseline / criteria that must be met before full access can be granted. Please enjoy the forum and be patient once the baseline has been satisfied full access will be granted. Please continue to post and accept my welcome to the forum.
Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.
Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.
