New as in new here
Hi Everyone,
I'm the owner of a silver 2000 XJR since 2008. I live in Central Jersey, as in New Jersey, after moving from France.
Trying to resolve a conflict the boys had in the backseats while taking a curve (I jnow it is not a good idea), I had a chance to test my RWD skills. Well, there are not great.
So embarrased to have a bump left backdoor, I let the car in my driveway for about a year.
Thanks to my hard work, I now have enough dough to fix it little by little.
I will have few questions in the next weeks but I will follow the etiquette and go smoothly into the very active discussions here.
I have a great feeling driving this car around. I have some shaking due to the out-of-round tires (sitting idle for so long takes it toll). I will probably downside from 20" aftermarket rims (chrome and worn leading to air leaking off the tires) by 18" (i will some ask if it's a good idea).
BTW, I feel the new jags are not as distinctive as this XJR whith a shape that's a classic. When I ran past a XF, I still need to check if it's not a toyossan or some honkia of some sorts. I'm pretty sure they are very good cars, but I like those very classic lines. Some say it's for old people, but I feel it shouts to the world we have a taste for the nice things.
Thank you for reading so far and enjoy your ride, no matter your car, your age and the weather.

Welcome to the forum ! You will find 18" wheels with fatter tyres will give a much better ride, although you may not be able to compete so well on a track day out. Me, I prefer comfort !
I tend to agree that the new Jaguar styles are not what we "older" owners are used to, but a local dealer told me "the trouble is the guys who like the old style are rapidly dying off, or are retired and can't afford to run them". Sales show the success of the XF, and the new XJ models, plus the new XK shape. My car is the last of the old shape, an X350 model series. Incidentally, the very first Jaguar of 1935 was a styling copy of a Bentley, so Jaguar even then did not try to be too different. The Bentley sold for about £1500, the Jaguar for £375. It about the same difference in percentage today, I think.

Hello and welcome,
New model Jaguars usually take a while to grow on me but I have to agree with you that the current ones aren't easily distinguishable from other marques.
Hope you keep the car and the boys under control from now on.

GGG I drove it yesterday to a jaguar technician in Flemington (Hi Georges). The waether was superb, the drive very pleasant, and he will give me the full game plan for immediate and later maintenance/reparations/extensions.
It will take sometimes, but I'm definitely convinced we will tame the beast and enjoy many many long ride with it.
