hey jaguar people, im buying an 87 xj6 in a few days. I was wondering if that ment it is a series III or if earlier series were still produced in 87. If so how do I tell the difference?

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
I'm no expert but I am fairly sure that '87 makes it a series III head over to the tech section and ask the experts.
Do you work with Catalyst in Snowflake?

You should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

This will help

XJ Lovers - Which XJ Do I Have?

If you're in the USA and the car is a USA-market car, it'll be a Series III....as the replacement (and very different) XJ6 was sold as a 1988 model year car in the USA.

Although many believe that Ser III XJ6 production ended in 1986 it actually ended in April 1987. Ser III XJ6s built from July '86 thru April '87 were "1987" model year cars in North America.

Cheers
DD
