Default "too young for a car like this..."

Hi there!

Yeah right, I'm 32 but so far this week I have had two people give me variations on the above appraisal my character. My car's a 1995 XJR. Done just over 220,000 kms. It develops a few problems now and then but basically I think it's just about the best car you could ever need - quiet, comfortable, fast enough to scare yourself silly, and my grandmother approves. But I still can't wait for the new XJ to start appearing in the small ads*-)

I have had this car for about a year but been away for most of the time, but I'm back now and looking forward to enjoying it properly. Once I get the steering sorted (pulling to the left and making nasty grinding noises when parking - it's booked in for a new power steering pump and other sundries next week) I am thinking about trying a few things to make it go faster. I'm not into modifying cars, but if anybody knows of anything simple that can be done to extract a bit more power out of the strait 6 engine (which to my mind feels very understressed even with the supercharger) then I'd be very grateful to hear about your experiences.

And the other thing that's vexing me at the moment is that the sensor which detects when you open driver's door appears not to be working. I can't even find where the sensor is, much less know how to repair it! but perhaps that's a post for the X300 board.

Oh and yes this is my first Jag, but I'm actually a bit of a classic car nut and I'm currently trying to talk myself out of buying something called a MkIX...

So, pleased to meet you!

Hi and Welcome.

You're not too young for a Jaguar; you're just ahead of your time!

Welcome collared. Too young for an XJR, NEVER. Take the doubters out for a spin, stick it in sport mode, they will doubt you no more.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

Unfortunately my girl and I have "decided" to take an overseas holiday over the next few weeks so I'm afraid that MkIX I had my eye on will probably be gone by the time I get back. Oh well. It's on carpoint.com.au if anybody else wants it, but watch out because you will be turning up to work with grease under your fingernails for a loooong time to come. lots of work required on this one, but fun work*-)
