Default Trying to make my mind up!!

Hi all

Im new to this forum, but hope you can help me.

Im currently looking for a decent diesel car for a 40 mile commute. Always loved jags, but never owned one and have recently been looking at the x-type. According to auto trader you're looking at high 40's mpg and assuming I do mainly motorway driving the mpg stated is pushing 50? I guess my main questions though are what are the pitfalls? Anything I should look out for, would you recommend owning one, would they be good for a commuter car? My budget is between £7k and £8k and am ideally looking for one with the toys and leather etc. Are they reliable is another obvious one! :-)

Any info would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

Shaun

Shaun,

Welcome to the forum,

(I've moved your post from General Tech to New Members Area - Intro a MUST)

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type section for help and advice. Remember the diesel version is not available in the US so many members will not be familiar with this engine. They will however be familiar with all the other idiosyncracies of the model! A good place to start is the 'HOW TO' at the top of the threads.

Also check the UK Regional section UK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for other members in the UK.

Enjoy the search.

Graham

Hi Shaun & welcome aboard, good to have you here with us
That kind of money should get you a good used example of one of the later year models i would think.
Are you looking at 2.0d or 2.2?
Bear in mid these engines are the Ford drivetrains and as they are FWD and dont have AWD you don't have the TC issues.....should be a good reliable car if the maintenance is done on it, but you'll get further advice as stated.

why not drop in and visit the regional section for your area?
There are lots of members local to you with the same interests.
Regional - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

There's a really great mix of information, camraderrie and fun here.....

Excellent thanks for the info jim. Must admit I'm not decided on either the 2 or the 2.2 to be honest - both look great and seem to have good mpg. I run a merc clk and a Volvo at the mo and the idea is to give the merc to the mrs who only does a few miles a day (gas guzzling petrol job, but lovely) and flog the Volvo (also a peol) for a diesel x-type. I'm loving the look of them and the interiors look lovely and comfy!!

Well, I've done it! Bought myself a x-type 2.2d (2006 on a 55 plate) and absolutely love it! Black with black leather and all the toys, full jag service history, full mot and tax etc, so I'm a very happy chappy! Fingers crossed she won't blow up or anything silly, but cant see why she would....thanks for all your advice.

Congratulations!
That checklist sounds a very safe pedigree.

Let's see some
