Default A Very Thankful Newbie

Hello Jaguar Forum! I'm a new 2002 X-Type owner and I found your site a couple months ago while I was doing vehicle searches. I am amazed by the general comraderie on this site - I have not seen it at other places, and it was one of the things that convinced me to by a Jag for the first time. I've always loved the Jag style but being a unique European car it was always a concern about how to repair things reasonably. 'Unique' and 'Reasonable' usually do not go well hand in hand eh??

I'm from Michigan, born and raised and started my Jag search about 4 months ago. I finally found what I thought was a great deal down in Virgina last month and flew down to purchase it. What I wasn't expecting was the dealer to have falsified damn near every item on their ad! (No Joke!!) BUT, standing there on scene giving the car a once over and kicking the tires, I knew that all the issues I saw with the car I had alreadt read about HERE on your forum at one time before. I also knew that anything I might discover with the car later I would be able to get help with here too. That certainly helped me make the decision to buy the car there anyway, in spite of the surprise problems. It also helped me cheapen the purchase price!

I am now the proud new owner of a 2002 X-Type, BRG color, 5 speed Manual (I've been wanting a stick for YEARS). It's the 2.5L version but I'm not sure that .5L difference matters to me. It was the style and stick version that counted.

Thanks to you guys I already know more about this car and how to do many repairs on it, than I have since my first two cars in high school! What a great group! I have already swapped out my center console ashtray, radio stack, e-brake boot, windshield washer hose line, air filter and I have a rear wheel knuckle with my name on it for the next weekend. My last project after the wheel knuckle will be to chase the proverbial P0171 code down. But after already cleaning out the MAF [and discovered it was missing a mounting screw] I have a good sense of where to go from there. (o-rings, etc...) I'm having a blast fixing these things (for now I'm sure lol, time will wear out the honeymoon, but till then ....)

I'm a moderate DIY'er. I've done a few water pumps, head gaskets, alternators, drive shaft, brakes, radiator, wheel knuckle (again??) etc... on some of my early cars. So I do know the occasional thrill of knuckle-busters.

So thanks again!! I appreciate all the help you gave me (without even knowing you did) by reading all the prior posts about how to fix things. I'm looking forward to meeting y'all as I bring this '02 back to life.

Mark

Great attitude mark and all that research paid off for you! You sound like you have more than enough experience to be a jag owner, and be steadfast and understanding with the x-type, she'll test your fortitude and patience from time to time.

welcome aboard!

There's going to be a Test???!!??? Oh crap! I hate pop quizes... and popped rivets... and popped tires... sparkplugs... radiator hoses... head gaskets... and anything else that goes "pop"... been there done that. Any chance of calling in sick on that, Matt??

Thanks for the compliments and welcomes everyone. I hope I'm not tested toooo much with her. Great to have these cliff notes here tho. I'm looking forward to Jagersizing with her for a good long time.
