Default Jaguar C-X75 Concept

Jaguar has just unveiled the C-X75 concept coupe with an electric/turbine hybrid that generates 780 hp. It's supposed to be capable of 3 sec 0-60 and 10.3 second quarter mile times on its way to 205 mph. I had heard Jaguar was working a gas-turbine/electric hybrid but thought it would be destined for the XJ series.

Holy s**t!

To whom do I write the check in order to purchase one of these!?

That is an absolute beauty of a car!

Ok, have to go. Need to find a kleenex to wipe the drool from my chin.

Cheers,
Rob

They need to change the front to look more like the xj 220 then they have a looker. I like everything except the front. Also why put hybrid technology in supercars? Its a little redundant i think. I want my supercar to have a billion liter v12, but still that technology is very impressive and shows a great future for jag

Default Jaguar keeping up with the times

It seems that Jaguar have a new concept car:

http://www.autorifi.com/story/jaguar...-styling-hints

If they produce it for sale at £200k, would you want to drive it?

If I had £200k to spend it probably wont be on this car but an Aston.

Although it does look like a fast car, it is great being electric, but will they put up the price of electricity?

UGLY. There is not a single design cue on this concept that I like.

I don't like it either. I certainly wouldn't buy it. It looks like a conglomeration of several car ideas; they didn't pull it off in my opinion.

I like how they put the two jet engines on display. Now, if they could put in some afterburners to fry some cars behind them it would be complete.

No doubt the Afterburners will be fitted to the Sport version.

These miniature gas turbines are amazing devices, being based on those originally developed for cruise missiles, I believe. Lets hope they last longer in the car !

It seems to me if we are going to have to buy cars with electric motor drives in the future, the gas turbine will be the battery charger of choice, assuming the fuel consumption is acceptable - very quiet and very smooth.

Top Gear site has info on it.
http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/p...-cx75-supercar

Bet you weren't expecting this, right? Jaguar has stolen the Paris motor show with a sensational JET-ENGINED supercar concept. That's right, JET-ENGINED.

The Jaguar C-X75 uses four electric motors - one at each wheel - powered by Lithium-ion batteries, each producing 195bhp, giving a maximum 780bhp and a heart-busting 1,180lb ft of pulling power.

The purely electric mode gives SuperJag a range of just 68 miles, so engineers have fitted a pair of micro gas-turbines which spin to 80,000rpm and weigh 35kg each, to recharge the batteries (or supplement them), extending the range to a possible 560 miles.

And this tree-hugger boasts performance stats capable of making today's supercars look like a bunch of gaggling neanderthals: 0-62mph takes 3.4secs, 50-90mph takes 2.3secs, and 0-187mph takes just 15.7secs.

The C-X75 uses a bonded aluminium chassis together with aluminium panels keeping weight down to just 1,350kg, while inside you get TFT high-res screens, a Jaguar Co-Pilot display and instrument/dash readouts which are angled for the driver. The design team used instrumentation from the new XJ and FIGHTER AIRCRAFT to create 3D 'gimbals' to provide status updates.

The stunning supercar is as much an evolution of Jag's design language as it is a nod to the company's illustrious past, with references to the 1950s C-Type and D-Type, as well as the XJ13 Le Mans prototype; a car which Ian Callum, Jag designer director, reckons is one of "the most beautiful Jags ever made"... until now.

Fighter aircraft, jet engines, zero emissions and Bugatti-busting acceleration... TopGear gives it an Alonso-sized Thumbs Up. Jaguar has played its trump card, and we're still reeling. Like it?

Assuming the concept can be made to work, and it really, really, could work with the technology we have available today, (assuming the life of the miniature gas turbines is satisfactory), where will we buy the fuel ? Will I have to drive to Manchester Airport to fill up ?

Nah, a pit stop in Leeds should do it

Oddly enough I was watching a film about the Rover Gas Turbine at Le Mans, over the WE.

Surprising that in 40 odd years, this engineering technology has not exactly taken off in the car market.

Top speed is 330 km/h (205 mph), acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved in 3.4 seconds, and from 80-145 km/h (50-90 mph) in 2.3 seconds.

Please, Dear God, don't let my daughter see this! lol

I suspect that this car would feel a lot like what I envision driving a miniature 'slot car' would feel like. The principal issue would be how to keep it on the road (track).

Wonder if it has plastic chain tensioners.

Thanks for the link.

It runs on gas, not jet fuel. That's why it's not called a jet engine or a jet turbine.
