Default 2013 Texas Wildflower Season

Springtime in Texas is wildflower season, especially bluebonnets. Here are some picture, most of them are post-processed using Photomatix.

I normally took 3 shots, in lowest ISO, tripod is a necessity, and I bracketed the shots. So 1 in normal exposure, 1 under expose, and 1 over expose.

I have a few where I tried to incorporate my car in the picture, but most of the time, I let the composition and the scene itself (and sometimes my rescue dog) 'carry' the scene - if you will.

This is just off Joyce Lane, in Round Rock, TX. The bluebonnets had not hit their peak bloom yet, but the setting is just perfect for a fence shot.

This is just inside the West Pickle Research Center, off Mopac highway in Austin, TX.

My rescue Shetland Sheepdog - Molly, same location as above. The challenge with a pet for HDR shot is to make sure that the pet sit still. For this rambunctious Sheltie, it's an achievement to get her to do that!

This is the helipad behind the research center, the grassy area surrounding it were full of bluebonnet!

Sometimes, bluebonnets compete with Indian paintbrush and the results are a shutterbug delight. This is from a small rise right in the border of Round Rock, TX and Georgetown, TX.

Some of you may have heard about the massive explosion at the town of West, TX. The town site is next to I-35 highway which is the highway that I had to travel on my weekend 'commute' to my fiance's place in Dallas. After that event, I tried to find an alternate route, so I decided to take FM308 just North of Waco, and rejoin I-35 at Milford, just outside Hillsboro, TX. On the way, I passed through the town site of Leroy, TX and Penelope, TX where I found these gems.

Dallas area itself has some nice spots too. This is the most popular probably for this season - JC Penney HQ field, just off Legacy drive in Plano TX.

However, the best location so far is at Ennis, TX. This is a scene off Sugar Ridge road, on the north side of Ennis, near the border with Palmer.

The season is almost wrapped up by now. Ennis is definitely at its peak, and this coming weekend, there will still be lots on the ground but will probably start hitting the decline. If you're in the state and in the position to visit, I definitely recommend Ennis.

Default New Texas Bluebonnet Sightings!

I know this is an older thread, but I would love to be kept in the loop when a good crop of bluebonnets crop up.
I hope we get a good season of them!!
