Hello David,
I have a friend who is looking into getting an S-Type R. The last car we went to go test drive more or less blew up during the drive. He claimed his car was always dealer maintained but I don't think the dealer would have been stupid enough to mix coolant colors and fail to clamp down a radiator hose in the correct location.
I am curious as to what you mean about the transmission being serviced and flushed. Did you perform this service at a Jaguar dealership? I understand that the transmission in your S-Type R and my XJR are the same which means it is a sealed unit. For what purpose did you perform this service? Also, if the car is completely dealer maintained, would it be possible for you to provide the complete service documentation from the dealer who performed the maintenance on the car?
If it is possible, we would like to stop to look over the car and to hopefully take it on a brief test drive.
Thanks!

I bought the car from the original owner last year. He lived in Rancho Mirage and had the car serviced at the local dealer there (Desert European Motorcars). That dealer did all service incl oil changes and brakes, everything except tires. I went to my local dealer (Galpin) and the guy confirmed the service history and said the service was up to date with no outstanding recalls. He showed me the computer screen with all of the service history but was hesitant to print it out claiming confidentiality for the previous owner (which I think is BS). This was at closing time and I feel like the guy didn't want to take the time to do the work and I didn't feel like pursuing it at the moment. I've never found any of the Galpin dealers to be helpful. I'm sure if we went together to another dealer we could at least view the complete history and prob get print-outs too.
After I got the car I started to notice some seepage between the engine and trans (maybe a drop or two on the ground), strangely it seemed to only happen when I parked in my driveway which has a steep slope. I looked at the orig owner's garage floor when he pulled the car out and it was clean so I think the slope perhaps caused a weak seal to leak.
I took it to my mechanic who had a trans shop replace the seals and bushings and added new fluid and a new trans pan/filter. I discussed the trans fluid with him and I made sure he got the correct ZF spec mineral oil fluid. I do not believe in the idea of a sealed for life transmission. No fluid lasts forever. I prob would have waited until 100k to replace the fluid but with the bad seal and no way to check the fluid level, I thought it best to have it done asap.
Aside from the trans, my mechanic also replaceD one power steering hose which was pulling air into the system resulting in noisy steering.
I changed the oil and filter w/synthetic myself and I also replaced the rear brake pads. I had two new rear tires put on when I bought the car (maybe 4k-5k miles ago). The front tires and ebrake pads will need to be replaced soon, as they are getting worn. Otherwise I believe everything else is up to date and the car runs great. I have both keys and the orig owners manuals, etc too.
