Well I don't think this is a good deal.. There are a lot of other jaguars floating around there that have 1/2 of those miles and cost the same. i mean I got my Jag S-type 5 months ago, I paid 11,000 and it had 68,000

Hope this helps.

Paul

+1 on everything depending on the previous owner. I got one for 10K with 90K miles(2001), and the previous owner treated the car as if it were his daughter. Don't be sold by the rims and the playstation as they will not get you to your job or school. Check out how the car drives and from experiance, test drive at least 3 other s-types before you get yours. I test drove the first s-type I got into and thought it was the best car in the world until I drove the next one. You can find a lot of things in one car that you won't even notice if you don't know what can go wrong. #1 though, you should check if the tranny hits hard when you put the car in reverse and if you hear a kind of click in the wheels when you go over speed bumps.

I am also in the market for an S-type. I was looking at a 2001 4.0 All options car. I have heard bad things about the
reliability of the 5spd auto in these cars. Also what are some common fail points for them? Weak gaskets? Rods prone to failure etc? The car i am looking at has 53k on it and he wants around 15,000. Which seems reasonable since it has nav and all options but xenon lights. Any input is appreciated thank you.

Make sure you have the metal upper tensioners and check out the lower ball joints.
