Has anyone else seen this generation STR oil pump with timing chain oil nozzles? The pump in my 03 STR is frozen solid, perhaps the reason 4 rods exploded. Is this design still available?
Attached are images of the 4.0 old style pump, my 03 STR pump, and the new 4.2 AJ34 pump.
Anyone modify the new style pump and add the timing chain squirters? Does one still need the chain nozzles if you use the new pump?
Joe

maybe you are supposed to move the pipes over?
you can't tell because the 3rd picture is of the wrong side.

Look carefully, the 3rd picture has the same orientation as the second.Originally Posted by plums

(Oil pick-ups are on the right side.)
The back of all the pumps are flat so that they can bolt flush to the block.

I did. I even crossed to JEPC. I was depending on the position of the oil pressure relief valve.
What about that series of threaded holes leading from 3 o'clock at the pump drive?
BTW, since you have it out, what is the inside diameter of the inner oil inlet?

I will post more information once I get the time to take it apart. Presently it is frozen and filled with lots of small metal pieces. It may be destroyed inside.Originally Posted by plums

For those interested in what the innards of this version of an 03 STR oil pump, here are some images. Lots of metal chunks inside when I took it apart. It appears that the pump was still working when the rods went.
